Devon's Newest Restaurant is About to Open

Landmark Americana is putting the finishing touches in place for next week's scheduled opening.

The staff and managers of Landmark Americana are about to put the new restaurant through its paces in the space that used to be home to the Paddock at Devon. Wednesday afternoon, managers were buffing and shining the new bar, tables, and booths inside as landscapers put finishing touches on the plants that adorn the parking lot. Township officials were expected to make final inspections Thursday of the facility, according to restaurant managers. Landmark Americana plans to open to the public on Wednesday, May 2. If all goes as planned, the staff will start doing "dry runs" in the days leading up to the opening with invitation-only events that will put the kitchen, bar, and wait staffs through their paces. The restaurant will be open daily …

New Restaurant 'Officially' Replacing Paddock

Real estate broker confirms who's moving into the space of the former Paddock at Devon and John Harvard's location.

The real estate broker who handled the sale to, and by, the owners of The Paddock at Devon restaurant is confirming what TE Patch reported last month. Local restaurant chain Landmark America will be moving into the former Paddock building. John Wilks of the Windsor Realty Group did not want to confirm the sale prior to the deal actually closing. That deal is closed and Wilks, who handled the transaction when The Paddock replaced John Harvard's in the same location, has issued a press release with details. Wilks previously told TE Patch the disagreements between the owners of the Paddock ultimately led to the restaurant's demise. The new restaurant is expected to open sometime in the spring, after renovations are made and the liquor license…

What's Replacing The Paddock at Devon?

Local taproom and restaurant chain wins bid.

When the Paddock at Devon abruptly closed its doors earlier this month the real estate broker who handled the sale revealed but would not confirm for publication on Patch that the buyer is Landmark Americana. An article on Philly.com now confirms that the buyer is indeed Landmark Americana, which owns taproom restaurants in West Chester, Philadelphia, and Glassboro, NJ.  It would seems like a perfect fit for the space which housed a John Harvard's Brewery before that chain shut down and the owners of the Paddock moved in. There is no word yet on when the new restaurant will open at the site on the corner of Lancaster Ave and Old Eagle School Road in Strafford. What Would You Pick to Replace The Paddock?

Friday the 13th seems like an appropriate day to nominate businesses for this parcel of land that's had a lot of bad luck with businesses.

The northwest corner of Lancaster Ave. and Old Eagle School Road has seen a lot of businesses come and go. The Paddock at Devon restaurant failed this month. It replaced John Harvard's, which failed in 2008. There seems to have been a run of bad luck for businesses trying to make a go of it on what the broker handling the sale of The Paddock tells Patch is the best location on the Main Line for a restaurant. A successful bid has been made on the property but the pending owners and what kind of business will be going in there has not been announced. Since you won't be going to the Paddock for lunch anyway,  Friday the 13th seemed like a good opportunity to ask TE Patch readers: What would you like to see replace the Paddock at Devon on the …

What Happened at the Paddock?

A Paddock insider offers his take on the closing of the Devon restaurant.

Commercial Real Estate Broker John Wilks can't reveal the name of the winning bidder for The Paddock at Devon retaurant location. The sale is not yet final and the broker says the buyer won't be revealed until the deal is closed. Offering some insight into what happened at the restaurant is a different story. Wilks tells Patch it was a matter of two partners, former golfing buddies, who went into business but found themselves at odds. "There can only captain of the ship," Wilks explains, and the owners had "two management styles." As he supervised the removal of some of the contents of the building and the distribution of food to a local food pantry, Wilks lamented Saturday's closing of the eatery he sold to his long time friend Joe Carney…

Paddock's Loss Becomes Local Families' Gain

The sudden closing of the Paddock at Devon restaurant is a blessing for local food pantry.

At an hour on Wednesday that was lunch hour at the Paddock at Devon just last week, Deb Ackerman and Colleen Sanford were packing up the contents of a huge walk-in refrigerator in the restaurant's newly-abandoned kitchen. Ackerman and Sanford run the food pantry at the Church of the Good Samaritan in Paoli. The fresh vegetables, eggs, butter, cream, cheese and bacon they were packing up Tuesday just after noon will be distributed to local families in need on Wednesday evening at the church. The women got word of the food windfall from Philabundance, one of the region's biggest food pantries. Philabundance got a call from the broker handling the sale of the restaurant, which closed down for good Saturday after dinner. The food pantry …
