Roads Close as Aqua Replaces 1.5-Mile Water Main

The 'Jolind Road' project is a $1.2 million undertaking in Paoli that is expected to finish in July.

Many residential streets were closed earlier this month as Aqua PA began a $1.2 million water main replacement project. Roughly 8,100 feet (about 1.5 miles) of old, cast iron pipe will be removed and replaced with 8-inch ductile iron main.  According to Aqua PA spokesperson Donna Alston, the water main replacement is expected to finish in June, followed by final paving in July. The work will take place weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The following streets will be affected:  The original piping dates back to the early 1900s, Alston said, and the new ductile iron main with cement lining will be more resistant to rust.

Five Firms Vie for Train-Trail Connector Path Study

The path would connect the new Paoli Transportation Center to the Chester Valley Trail via West Central Avenue and Cedar Hollow Road.

Five firms have submitted proposals to conduct a study gauging the feasibility of a path connecting the nascent Paoli Transportation Center to the Chester Valley Trail, according to the agency that commissioned the study. The Transportation Management Authority of Chester County announced a request for proposals to build the pathway in January.  The pathway is represented as a blue line on the attached map. It would give pedestrians and bicyclists a safe route between two destinations that are not yet open—the second phase of the county trail and the redeveloped, expanded Paoli Septa station.  According to Mary Alice Springs, Transportation Planning and Operations Manager at TMACC, five proposals were received by the Feb. 22 deadline. …

Paoli Store Closing, Offering Huge Deals

Sunday and Monday are your last chances to get great deals on fun, unusual and unique gift items.

They opened with flair in 2011 and were forced to shut down for a month just a few days later. Now ShoppeFlare in Paoli is closing its "bricks and mortar" doors for good as it transitions to an online store. Sunday and Monday everything in the store is being sold for 50 percent off. The store will be open 10 a.m.-5p.m. on Sunday and on Monday from 10 a.m. until everything is gone. Shoppe Flare's owners have been a ride that included something no business owner expects when they open. Just a few short days after Kelly Prevost and Wendy Belle opened their new gift store in the spring of 2011 a man in a red Toyota came in through the front door... in his Toyota. Nobody was hurt in the accident but the storefront was destroyed and the brand …

Wind & Rain Bring Down Trees & Power Lines

Downed trees leave thousands without power in Tredyffrin and Easttown townships.

In the Valley Hills neighborhood of Paoli, there were at least two downed trees and a neighbor reported a third. The trees have taken out power lines and are blocking the roads, making it impossible for residents to leave home by car. Neighbors came together to start to cut up a tree across Biddle Road, but they stopped after police told them to, in case any of the power lines should become live. A neighbors said that the tree down on Fennerton was on a live wire that was sparking. The line was no longer sparking when I got there to take pictures. Closures Many businesses are closed Tuesday. Tuesday morning, there were a number of cars driving around the parking lot of Gateway Shopping Center, apparently looking to patronize one of the …

It's Not Havana, It's Paoli

You don't see many of these around TE these days.

You don't see a whole lot of cars like this these days unless you're in Havana.  TE Patch's camera caught this vintage cherry red Chevy from the 50's just after 6 p.m. Monday turning from Valley Road onto Lancaster Ave. in Paoli. The interesection hasn't changed a whole lot in terms of width and traffic pattern since this baby rolled off the assembly line. While planners can't do much about widening the Valley Road Bridge there is a $300,000 study underway to figure out how to make the area better for drivers and pedestrians. The study is being funded by PennDOT but administered by Tredyffrin Township. The people conducting the study would like to hear from anyone who lives or drives in the train station area of Paoli. There is a website …

Paoli's Newest Eatery Expected to Open Soon

A popular local cafe chain is on track for a big opening in July.

From custard shop to breakfast stop, the newest Nudy's Cafe is expected to open soon inside the former Jake's Custard location on Lancaster Ave. in Paoli. A spokeswoman for the Paoli VIllage Shoppes says the new cafe will have seating for 50 and is expected to open by mid-July. That is the same target date a Nudy's official gave Patch several months ago when the lease was signed for the new cafe. This will be the eighth Nudy's Cafe location, which includes seven restaurants in Chester County. The family-owned chain is headquartered in Devon. The Nudy's sign has been up on Lancaster Avenue for more than a month now, and a Paoli Village Shoppes official say work has been moving forward inside teh restaurant which is expected to open its …

Hey Amanda, You are correct in your view, even if it was one event. I can add that I've had several bad experiences at Nudys over the years. each time I "give it another try" but leave disappointed. The service is always ok, not great but above average, but the food quality is poor. Big portions of low quality food does not make this a better choice than others in the area. In my opinion the food…   more ›
