It started as an employee Christmas party idea at the Upper Main Line YMCA and exploded into one of the biggest charity drives of its kind in the nation.
Seven thousand children all over the Delaware Valley will have a brighter Christmas thanks to the work and generosity of hundreds of families from Tredyffrin, Easttown, and surrounding areas. Under portable lights made brighter by the smiles of hundreds of volunteers of all ages, a real life Santa's sleigh operation unfolded Thursday at the Upper Main Line YMCA. T & Care, a local organization dedicated to lending a heling hand to families who find themselves in need, is seeking volunteers and donations for two drives. T&E Care Founder Sandi Gorman sent the following email to Patch to pass along to our readers. More information about the organization and the needs for this holiday season is available on the T&E Care website. Pets were welcome "outside" on the plaza at Rita's Water Ice in Chesterbook Village in Tredyffrin Township Wednesday afternoon. The store offered a chance to spin a wheel for prizes and discount coupons throughout the day and evening Wednesday. 15% of the day's profits will also be donated to the Chester County SPCA. "Spots," a four year old bulldog/boxer mixed breed dog was on hand to greet customers Wednesday afternoon. He is also available for adoption at the Chester County SPCA. One year after a near-drowning accident that nearly killed Logan Schweiter of Wayne, Tredyffrin Township the communities around him have demonstrated what the phrase "it takes a village" really means. From the very beginning of the then-12-year-old boy's recovery, his friends, family, and the TE and Radnor communities at large have rallied around Logan and the Schweiter family. It began with volunteer first responders from Radnor Fire Company who pulled him out of the rushing waters of a South Wayne creek and continued almost immediately with fundraisers in the days after the accident. Logan's former seventh grade classmates at St. Kathaine's in Wayne rallied to his cause and so did high school students from Conestoga High School in Berwyn…

Time is quickly running out on the T&E Care annual school supply drive and they non-profit community goup dedicated to heping students right here in Tredyffrin and Easttown desperately needs your help. This is the final week and Monday July 30 is the last scheduled day for collecting supplies for the non-profit group's annual school supply drive. Helping out is really easy and doesn't have to cost you a lot either. The difference your donation can make in helping a student be ready to go back to school in the fall is huge. Tredyffrin Township is looking for official liason volunteers to get the word out about news affecting local neighborhoods.
Tredyffrin Township is looking for volunteers who are willing to help spread the word by being a "point person" for hyper-local neighborhood news from the township. The new call for volunteers is part of the township's effort to increase communication about developments affecting specific neighborhoods. According to a flyer distributed at Monday night's Board of Supervisors meeting, "your role as a representative for your Homeowners Association, neighborhood, or community is crucial to the public participation process!" TE Patch readers from Tredyffrin and Easttown turned out Saturday to learn about some of the great community and non-profit organizations in TE as well as tour fire engines and enjoy some amazing pastry treats. Thanks to the volunteers from Berwyn Fire Comany, FLITE, T&E Care, The Veterans Association of Easttown & Tredyffrin Townships who greeted visitors along with TE Patch. Sweet Jazmines Pastry Shop in Berwyn (next to the Berwyn Fire Company) provided pastry treats for the event. Also represented at the event were The Easttown and Tredyffrin Township Police Departments, and Footlighters Theater Company in Berwyn.

The Main Line Chamber Foundation also awarded scholarships to volunteer firefighters and EMTs.
Three young Berwyn Fire Company volunteers are among 24 Main Line volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians being honored as "Hometown Heroes." Gerard C. Griesser, Elizabeth Schew, and Carl Weisbecker were honored Tuesday night at the Main Line Chamber Foundation's "Hometown Heroes" Scholarship Awards Ceremony. The third annual event, honored students who selflessly volunteer their time and energy to serve their communities. Each of the Berwyn Volunteers was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. Griesser is a student at West Chester University. Schew and Weisbecker are recent graduates of Conestoga High School. Schew plans to study fire sciences at the University of New Haven. Weisbecker is headed to Kutztown University in the fall…

Two volunteers delivering hot lunches for meals on wheels were in a car that was stuck in the back by a small pick up truck on Lancaster Ave by the Daylesford SEPTA Station in Tredyffrin. The accient happened around 11 a.m. and there were no injuries to the women in the car or to the two men in the pick up truck. The pick up truck was carrying smal auto parts. The car was carrying hot lunches for Meals on Wheels MOW to local shut-ins. Volunteer Elizabeth Sajed was making a right turn from Lancaster Aveunue onto Old Lancaster Ave at the Daylesford Train Station underpass when her red Toyota Prius was rear-ended by small pick up truck.
