As Storm Looms,Townships Request: Do This NOW

Don't wait. Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships ask residents to prepare NOW by taking steps at home and doing one critical thing to help reduce the potential for flooding.

Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships are asking residents to prepare NOW for the possibility of Hurricane Sandy or its remnants to sock the region with heavy winds and soaking rains. In addition to preparing your own property by bringing in any outdoor items that could be blown around, the number one request for community assistance at this point (early Satursday afternoon) is to help clear storm drains. Falling leaves, which have increased dramatically in the past few days, present one of the biggest threats to draining storm waters from streets. When contacted by TE Patch on Friday afternoon Easttown Township Manager Mike Brown echoed the requests being made this weekend by Tredyffrin and Chester County officials. If you live on a street …

There was one major point missed by all authorities when they requested the public's help in preventing flooding from clogged storm drains - removing leaves off the paved surfaces both on your property and on the street in front too. The leaves already on the roads in front of people's properties are the ones that will be swept away by the rains, not the leaves on lawns. My neighbors dutifully …   more ›

Meet Tredyffrin Township's Incoming Manager

Bill Martin is no stranger to Tredyffrin or the Upper Main Line.

When Bill Martin takes the reigns as the new Tredyffrin Township Manager next month, he'll be bringing something new to the job in recent history. He is not only going to run the township's day to day operations, he also lives in Tredyffrin. Martin is currently Burough Manager of Bridgepot. He also spent a decade working for Radnor Township. Martin was appointed Monday as manager of neighboring Tredyffrin Township. The Long Island native is a ten-year resident of Tredyffrin and lives here with his wife, Marie and their children, Kate and Will. “I’m really looking forward to it,” Martin said Tuesday from his office in Bridgeport. He has been borough manager there for more than a year. “I’m very excited to start there and serve the residents…

Tredyffrin Appoints New Township Manager

Something about the new manager is very different than his predecessors.

Community Matters and TE Patch Blogger Pattye Benson reports that Tredyffrin Township's Board of Supervisors has appointed a new Township Manager to replace Mimi Gleason, who left the position in September 17 after ten years with Tredyffrin Township. William Martin is currently the manager of the Borough of Bridgeport in Montgomery County. Before that job he spent several years in the township government of Radnor. What sets him apart from Gleason and others who have served as Tredyffrin Township Manager is that Martin is a resident of the township. Full details on the new manager can be found here on Pattye Benson's Community Matters/TE Patch Local Voices blog post.

Tredyffrin Residents Flood Trout Creek Mtg

Tredyffrin Supervisors hear three hours of public comments before taking a 4-3 vote on the Trout Creek Overlay District.

A controversial proposal to clear the way for a new deveopment in a flood-prone section of Tredyffrin Township came to the very last vote Monday night at the Tredyffrin Township Board of Supervisors meeting. Hundreds of area residents poured into Keene Hall and the lobby outside as the controversial Trout Creek Stormwater Overlay District ordinance came up for a seventh and final public hearing and vote. In the end, the measure passed 4-3 as Supervisor Kristen Kirk Mayock cast the final and deciding vote to approve the new ordinance in a room full packed to overflowing with citizens who opposed the measure in the form as approved. Supervisors Blasted Over Letter on Website

Tredyffrin Township Supervisors, manager come under public fire as a blogger and a former T/E School Board member demand apologies.

In her last official moments as Tredyffrin Township Manager Mimi Gleason and members of the Tredyffrin Board of Supervisors came under fire in two pointed, blunt and direct no-holds-barred public statements Monday night. The statements were made by Community Matters Blogger Pattye Benson and former three-term Tredyffrin Easttown School Board member Andrea Felkins. Felkins is a Republican who has lived in TE for three decade. Benson ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the Board of Supervisors as a Democrat in 2009.  That is relevant to the story because the letter at the heart of the First Ammendment controversy was posted on the township's taxpayer funded website by Board Vice Chairman John "JD" DiBuonaventuro. He is a Republican. In his …

"Lettergate" Zoning Board Member Forced Out

Her criminal case ended but then a First Amendment firestorm erupted in Tredyffrin Township.

The case of a Tredyffrin Zoning Board member accused of public drunkeness and disorderly conduct ended in a not guilty ruling over the summer. The case and the verdict touched off a firestorm of controversy and led to a police investigation and an internet showdown over the First Amendment right to free speech. The not guilty verdict was declared after two Tredyffrin Police officers failed to appear in court. A police investigation found human error, a clerical mistake, was the reason the officers did not appear as scheduled in court. That was the official finding of the internal police investigation. The case raised some questions in the news media about whether or not the woman benefited from outside influence because she at one time …

Controversial C-1 Zoning Law Change Approved

The Tredyffrin Board of Supervisors clears the way for new senior assisted living development on small site on Lancaster Ave.

After more than a year of discussion in the community, and months of hearings at the Tredyffrin Planning Commission and finally the Tredyffrin Township Board of Supervisors, a controversial change in the township's zoning law has won approval. The change in the C-1 Zoning Ordinance will allow developers of a proposed 93 bed assisted living facility to begin the process of developing the former Jimmy Duffy Catering site on Lancaster Ave., across from the Daylesford Train Station. The Capital Health development led by Ed Morris of Tredyffrin must still meet all the requirements for the site, including parking, building size and storm water management. The vote Monday night clears the way for Morris, who also developed the Symphony Square …

Bob: A sincere thanks to you and The Patch for your continuous coverage of this story. I'm certain your coverage has contributed greatly to Tredyffrin residents filling the seats last night! Clearly, the Daylesford Neighborhood Association (DNA) is incredibly disappointed with last night's vote. However, I'd like to thank all of our members for their time and tenacity over the last 9 months! It …   more ›
