Year After Accident It Still Takes a Village

In the year since a near-drowning accident changed Logan Schweiter's life forever, a community shows its true colors.

One year after a near-drowning accident that nearly killed Logan Schweiter of Wayne, Tredyffrin Township the communities around him have demonstrated what the phrase "it takes a village" really means. From the very beginning of the then-12-year-old boy's recovery, his friends, family, and the TE and Radnor communities at large have rallied around Logan and the Schweiter family. It began with volunteer first responders from Radnor Fire Company who pulled him out of the rushing waters of a South Wayne creek and continued almost immediately with fundraisers in the days after the accident. Logan's former seventh grade classmates at St. Kathaine's in Wayne rallied to his cause and so did high school students from Conestoga High School in Berwyn…

Logan's Parents: Youth Is On His Side

Melissa and Marty Schweiter take you into the daily life of their son Logan, and show how the Tredyffrin teenager is working hard to recover from a devastating near-drowning accident.

13-year-old Logan Schweiter of Wayne, Tredyffrin Township survived after being dragged and trapped under water in a storm-swelled creek for about 20 minutes last summer. He was pulled to safety by fast-acting and heroric firefighters, but that much time trapped under water without oxygen can prove devestating, if not fatal. Miraculously, the seventh graded survived, but the tragedy has taken a toll on Logan, his family and his friends. Logan's body thrived in recovery at Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania. But it's what his brain may or may not be able to do now that he and his family are working hard to find out. Logan's parents Melissa and Marty recently made a video to show the countless supporters who have pitched in with donations of…

First Responders

Tredyffrin Township Honors Radnor First Responders Who Saved Boy From Drowning

Logan Schweiter's father, Martin thanked the volunteers who helped save his son.

They risked their lives, some diving into rushing water without a safety rope to pull an unconcious 12 year old boy from under the rushing flood waters of a rain swollen creek.  It was an act of heroism that literally saved Logan Schweiter's life. Monday night, two dozen Radnor Fire Company first responders were the first item on the agenda at the Tredyffrin Township Board of Supervisor’s meeting. It was a ceremony honoring the first responders who answered the call without hesitation, and it was the first time Logan Schweiter's father had a chance to publicly thank the volunteers who saved his son. Dramatic Details of Upper Main Line Creek Rescue

Radnor Fire Co. First Responders describe what happened when a 12 year old was swept away in raging flood waters.

With pool rafts in hand, Logan Schweiter and two of his friends headed down to a Radnor Township creek on the property of St. Katharine of Siena in South Wayne where they go to school. It was Monday, July 25 and torrential rains had swelled the creek, making what is usually a three-foot wide, inches-deep creek, a rapidly moving torrent of water. Local fire and rescue officials estimated the creek had swelled during the downpours to about 12 feet wide and 10 feet deep. The boys jumped in. While two of them were able to cling to branches and avoid being taken by the rapidly moving current, Logan Schweiter succumbed to the torrent and was carried down stream. Media reports credited a neighbor, Dr. Michael Beers, with bringing the boy back …
