Pre-Dawn Fire Burns TE Home's Garage

Fire Chief says the family was "very lucky"and cautions others about what caused the blaze.

A pre-dawn house fire caused an estimated $50,000 in structural damage and another $10,000 in destroyed contents Wednesday morning in Paoli. No one was injured in the fire which involved three local fire companies. Paoli Fire Chief Ira Dutter says the fire broke out just before 4:30 a.m. in a trash bag inside the garage of the single family home on Lynne Circle. Dutter says the bag had been used to dispose of fireplace ashes two days before and the long-smoldering embers caused the blaze. He says the fire has been ruled accidental. Dutter warns that embers from fireplaces can be cold on the outide, but smoldering deep in the center. Berwyn Fire Co.To Set Car, House Ablaze

When it comes to fire, these first responders are not playing around.

When it comes to fire, the Berwyn Fire Company is not playing with fire. They're using it to demonstrate the dangers many everyday items and activites can pose if you don't know what to watch out for. To make the point, the fire company will host an open house Saturday afternoon from 3-5:30 p.m.. The events include live fire demonstrations with a car, kitchen and model house being set on fire. The open house is part of the National Fire Safety activities going on in communities all over the country this month. Huge Fire Causes Massive Damage in Tredyffrin

Firefighters from Paoli, Berwyn, Malvern and Radnor are called in as a Tredyffrin House goes up in flames.

No one was injured in a massive house fire in Tredyffrin Township Monday night that required firefighters from three local companies to battle . According to information from the Berwyn Fire Company, the first 9-1-1 call came in  at 7:12 p.m. Monday from neighbors who saw the house on fire in the 2000 block of Georgetown Road in Tredyffrin Township. Paoli Fire Company Chief Ira Dutter called for more help from Berwyn and Mavern Fire Companies within three minutes. Radnor Fire Company sent a truck to the Berwyn Firehouse to cover in case of any other emergencies while Berwyn crews were at the fire. New Report Reveals Most Common Time for Fires

In 2011, the Berwyn Fire Co. responded to a record 850 fire calls.

A new report posted on the Berwyn Fire Co.'s website reveals staggering facts and figures about the most common time and rooms for house fires. According to the report from the U.S. Fire Administraion an estimated 365,500 residential building fires are reported to U.S. fire departments each year and cause an estimated 2,560 deaths, 13,000 injuries, and $7.4 billion in property loss. In 2011, the Berwyn Fire Co. responded to a record 850 fire calls ranging from false alarms to fully-involved building fires. Nationally, the report tracks residential fires reported between 2008 and 2010. The study shows 45 percent of fires start in the kitchen.
