Lightning Strike Possible Cause of Fire Above Shady Dog

The fire closed a portion of Lancaster Avenue for about a half-hour on Wednesday.

Firefighters responded to a small fire in the window of a third-floor apartment above Shady Dog Records on the 600 block of Lancaster Avenue Wednesday night. Fire crews from Berwyn, Paoli and Radnor responded to the fire around 9:45 p.m., and the Chester County Fire Marshal investigated whether a lightning strike sparked it.  The emergency response shut down Route 30 between Midland and Waterloo avenues for about 35 minutes, according to Berwyn Fire Co. Assistant Chief Eamon Brazunas. "We were fortunate this was reported by the renter in time for us to get in there and extinguish the fire," Brazunas said. "With the winds tonight, we could have had some major issues." Shady Dogs is celebrating its 20th year in business this week.
