NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, interrupted by protesters during a national press conference, says, "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."
The National Rifle Association (NRA) called on Congress to act immediately to put armed security officers in every school and make sure "blanket safety" is in place before school resumes after holiday break. "We need to make every school in America immediately deploy a protection program," said NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre. Should every school have armed security? Tell us in the comments section below. The NRA went on the offensive Friday saying violent video games such as Kindergarten Killer and "blood-soaked" films are to blame for gun violence such as last week's mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school. State Representative Warren Kampf (R-157) is calling on lawmakers and the public to take a broad approach to responding to the Connecticut school shootings that left 20 children and six adults dead last Friday. In an editorial sent to Patch, the newly re-elected State Representative says "I do not believe we can rush into a course of action. For one thing, all of the facts about the Newtown shootings are not yet available. To take action without the correct facts is to risk making decisions that do not meet our common goals and would waste our collective will on weak or useless measures." Reflections on the Horror of Newtown By Warren Kampf 157th District In response to the tragic events in Newtown, CT, there is a natural call to do …

Some politicians are suggesting that it's time to ban assault weapons in the United States in the wake of Friday's Newtown school shooting.
Nineteen types of assault weapons — semi-automatic or fully automatic guns with the capacity to shoot many bullets in a short period of time — were banned in the United States from 1994 to 2004. In 2004, the ban expired and neither President Bush nor Congress acted to renew it. Some politicians are calling for new laws that would ban the type of high-capacity weapons used by the gunman to kill 20 children and six adults in an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. on Friday. Outgoing Sen. Joe Lieberman told the Associated Press Sunday that the U.S. should ban military-style assault weapons. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a California Democrat, said she would propose a law next year banning big clips, drums and strips of more than 10 bullets. In his …
