The Tredyffrin Easttown School District is planning a special public meeting tonight to discuss school safety and security.
In the wake of the Connecticut school shooting massacre, the Tredyffrin Easttown School District is planning a special 7 p.m. public meeting tonight on security in T/E school buildlings. According to an announcement from the district administration, school officials will be joined by a panel that will include the Superintendant and Chief of the Tredyffrin and Easttown police departments and other experts on school security. Question cards will be available to allow anyone with a question to ask the panel. The meeting will be recorded and aired on Comcast Channel 14 and Verizon Channel 20. The National Rifle Association (NRA) called on Congress to act immediately to put armed security officers in every school and make sure "blanket safety" is in place before school resumes after holiday break. The bell at St. John's Presbyterian Church in Devon will be tolled at 9:30 Friday morning to honor the 26 victims of the Connecticut school shooting massacre. Church member John Alexander contacted Patch earlier this week about his plan to ring the chruch bell. "I was traumatized by the loss of twenty darling six year-old Angels and six heroic educators at 9:30a.m. last Friday, December 14, 2012 in Newtown, Connecticut." Alexander wrote in an email to Patch. Patch sites, including TE Patch, will take place in a national moment of silence/website temporary blackout at 9:30 a.m. to honor those who died in the Connecticut school shooting massacre last Friday morning at 9:30.

Some politicians are suggesting that it's time to ban assault weapons in the United States in the wake of Friday's Newtown school shooting.
Nineteen types of assault weapons — semi-automatic or fully automatic guns with the capacity to shoot many bullets in a short period of time — were banned in the United States from 1994 to 2004. In 2004, the ban expired and neither President Bush nor Congress acted to renew it. Some politicians are calling for new laws that would ban the type of high-capacity weapons used by the gunman to kill 20 children and six adults in an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. on Friday. It will also be the first time most students will be in class since learning about the attacks.
