TESD Outsourcing Decision Pushed to June 17

A school board vote on the outsourcing of support staff, designed to avoid Affordable Care Act fines, was rescheduled after a lengthy meeting.

The Tredyffrin/Easttown School Board on Monday night tabled a decision on whether to outsource the jobs of support staff in the district. The board was set to vote on the issue at its regular meeting, but postponed the decision until June 17, according to the district website:   The meeting ran past midnight, with more than three hours devoted to the outsourcing discussion, according to the Daily Local News. The Community Matters blog said that the vote was delayed after opposition by a crowd of attendees "[s]tanding three people deep and overflowing into the lobby." The most striking revelations, according to the blog, were about the minimal hiring standards of Substitute Teachers Service Inc., the company through which the employees …

T/E School District Announces Administrative Staffing Changes

The following changes will take effect July 1.

Tredyffrin-Easttown School District announced the following administrative assignments, which were approved by unanimous vote at the Monday night school board meeting.   These changes were based on recommendations of Superintendent Dan Waters, and they will take effect July 1.

TEMS Teacher Wins 'Heart of Learning' Award

Beverly Jones Bell received the teaching award in a ceremony Tuesday.

Tredyffrin Easttown Middle School teacher Beverly Jones Bell is one of three teachers in Chester County to receive a 2013 Citadel Heart of Learning Award.  The "Heart of Learning Award" is a joint collaborative effort between Citadel and the Chester County Intermediate Unit, created to recognize dedicated teachers who impact the community. Jones Bell, who retired earlier this school year, won for the middle school category, according to Citadel: Other winners included Rose Cappelli of Fern Hill Elementary School in West Chester and Susan Shelley of Unionville High School.

More Praise for 'Stoga Student Journalists

The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences recently presented awards to local high school students working to pursue their dreams of broadcast news.

Newsweek Ranks Conestoga Among US High Schools

The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday.

On mobile? You can see interactive map here. Newsweek has ranked Conestoga High School as the #124 best high school in the country. Locally, Harriton High School was ranked #219, Radnor High School #255, Strath Haven High School #291, Lower Merion High School #321, Great Valley High School was ranked #359, Springfield High School #648, Haverford High School #742 and Marple Newtown High School #1096. For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013.
