Devon Prep Middle School Students Earn Trophy in Science Olympiad Tournament

Devon Prep’s Middle School Science Olympiad Team recently earned a Third Place trophy at the Rustin Invitational Tournament at Rustin Bayard High School in West Chester.  Thirty-nine teams from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Virginia took part in the competition.  Devon Prep was the highest ranked Pennsylvania team, receiving eight top ten awards out of 23 events. 

The award winners include:

ANATOMY – 2nd Place

Seventh Grader Joseph Rajasekaran of King of Prussia and Ninth Grader Michael Weir of Malvern

WHEELED VEHICLE – 2nd Place

Seventh Grader Jake Landaiche of Wayne and Eighth Grader Akul Niak of Phoenixville

HELICOPTERS – 4th Place

Seventh Graders Joseph Rajasekaran and Andre Tiglao both of King of Prussia

CAN’T JUDGE A POWDER – 4th Place

Eighth Graders Christopher Rufo of Chester Springs and Jacob Pabia of Phoenixville

HEREDITY – 5th Place

Eighth Grader Brendan McGrath of West Chester and Seventh Grader Andrew Landaiche of Wayne

METEOROLOGY – 6th Place

Eighth Graders Thomas Brower of Kimberton and Brendan McGrath of West Chester

BOOMILEVER -   7th Place

“I am very proud of the team's accomplishments this season,” said Devon Prep Science Teacher and the Team’s Moderator Ms. Melanie Picard. “The students are very dedicated to helping the team succeed. We are also very fortunate to have such supportive parents and faculty mentors.”

The goal of a Science Olympiad Invitational Tournament is to allow students a chance to participate in a competition similar to Regionals as well as give students and coaches ideas and resources to prepare for the Regional competition.  Devon Prep’s team will compete in the Science Olympiad Regional Tournament at Neumann University in early March. 

Science Olympiad is an international nonprofit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science, and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education.
