First Responders Flock to Upper Main Line Y

The annual UMLY Emergency Services Day featured demonstrations of police, fire, ambulance equipment, a helicopter, and a man made rain shower.

First respondenders from Tredyffrin, Easttown, Chester County and the region converged on the Upper Main Line YMCA Wednesday to show campers the tools they use to keep the public safe and protected.

Among the highlights for the young campers:

  • Watching the JeffStat Helicopter land (they took off a little early to respond to a call to the ooh's and ahh's of Y summer campers)
  • A police-style show and tell by the Tredyffrin and Easttown Police Departments
  • A demonstration by the Berwyn, Paoli, and Malvern fire companies of the "jaws of life" used to pry apart cars in a wreck
  • The Chester County Hazmat Response team's show and tell of safety suits and dangerous materials
  • A chance to "man the hoses" under the guidance of Valley Forge Volunteer firefighters
  • A demonstration of Newtown Square Fire Company's lader truck
  • A final salute by the Radnor Fire Company who sprayed 750 gallons of water on a crowd of smiling, cheering kids.
