Drama students at Conestoga High School are preparing for a big opening night Thursday as Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice takes center stage at the school.
According to a news release about the production:
The classic Jane Austen novel, Pride and Prejudice, adapted by Joseph Hanreddy and J. R. Sullivan brings Austen's beloved and iconic characters to life on the stage. In this version, patrons will witness the instantaneous connection of Jane and Bingley, timeless humor of Mr. Bennet, sibling rivalry in the Bennet household, and the communion of both pride and prejudice via Elizabeth and Darcy.
Austen's story has a little something for everyone: the romantic will adore seeing the various love connections, the comedy lover will chuckle at Mr.Bennet's witty remarks on marriage and raising five daughters, and there is plenty of social commentary that Austen interjects about the state of marriage, women, and society in her era.
