A sick, likely rabid, raccoon has been euthanized in Radnor Township, and officials are looking for help in locating a woman who had contact with the animal.
Radnor Police responded to a call Saturday about a violent raccoon at the Wayne Post Office on South Wayne Avenue, township officials said.
The animal was growling and hissing at Post Office patrons, police said. According to witnesses, it had made contact with a woman, knocking her over. The woman left the area before police arrived, officials said.
The animal was located on West Wayne Avenue and has been euthanized. Its remains are being tested by the state Department of Health to confirm whether it was rabid.
Officials now are seeking the woman who was knocked over by the animal, as it is possible that she will require medical treatment. The incident occurred at about 11 a.m. Saturday. The woman was described to police “as having dark brown straight long hair, wearing knee-high suede boots, blue jeans, a green shirt and jacket.”
Anyone knowing the identity of the victim is asked to call 610-688-5600.
