Presented by the Willistown Conservation Trust
In the last few years, thw Willistown Conservation Trust (WCT) has implemented a very successful bird banding program that is based on the 80-acre Rushton Woods Preserve. Their federally licensed banding staff collects important scientific data regarding bird species dispersal, migration, behavior, social structure, life span, survival rate, reproductive success, and population growth, while still remaining open to the public. This spring we are honored to host the WCT banders here at Jenkins for a morning demonstration of banding procedures. If we are lucky, this will be a live demonstration and we will get to see the capture, handling, and release of wild birds. Seeing a bird "in the hand" as the banders collect data is a remarkable experience that no birder would want to miss.
