My 3 Sons Hot Dogs to Open Saturday

The hot dog and beer emporium on West State Street will officially open for business on Dec. 15.

 

UPDATE: The opening of My Three Sons has been pushed back to next Saturday, Dec. 22. The owner apologizes for the postponement but it will be worth the wait for a tasty dog.

 

As details, decor, inspections and menus are finalized at My Three Sons Hot Dogs and Beer Emporium, owner Steven Gariffo could not be more excited to open Media Borough's newest restaurant.

Gariffo's enthusiasm for hot dogs, beer, family, customer service and his new business venture is electric and will surely make My Three Sons a success.

This is Gariffo's first food service venture but he grew up working in his parent's Southwest Philadelphia deli.

Gariffo says he and his wife, Roxann wanted to pass a legacy down to their sons but being a doctor of physical therapy made that legacy a little more difficult to pass on.

"I wanted a legacy and I wanted something for my boys to have, but I can't give them my profession," he says.

Gariffo, who has lived in Middletown Township for 12 years, says his parents owned a deli for 30 years and he has the fondest memories of his family's time there.

"I want that for my boys," he says. "I want to instill that work ethic in them."

Gariffo son's Luca, 12, Matteo, 10, and Marcello, 7, will likely be stocking shelves and serving up hot dogs in the years to come.

Hot Dog Decor

My Three Sons' custom-made picnic tables offer amble seating along with the counter seating that faces the window. Plus, during warmer weather more seating will be placed outside on a small patio front.

But the grass-like tile flooring inside, allows a guest to feel as if you're outside enjoying a delicious dog.

TV's and a jukebox will entertain guests with sports games and music. And the vintage hot dog signs mixed with newer cartoon-like menu graphics bring a retro-modern feel.

Top Dog Menu

My Three Sons has six solid menu items: hot dogs, beer, tater tots, onion rings, chili and homemade cookies.

The hot dogs are all gluten free and all beef and a vegan dog and kosher dog are also available. Each dog is 10-inches long and on an 8-inch roll.

Every hot dog is themed and several are named after a city, reflecting that city's personality, and a beer pairing will also be suggested for each hot dog.

The LaLa Land Hot Dog, of course hails from Hollywood and offers a creamy fennel slaw with a Dijon mustard. The Toddling Town Dog, of Chicago, has yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, onion, a dill pickle spear, tomato and pickled peppers. The Trailer Dog may be the most indulging, topped with homemade chili, nacho cheese and Frito corn chips. (See attached PDF file for more menu items.)

Everything is baked, not fried at My Three Sons and all of the sauces are homemade.

There will be 300 plus bottles of beer offered and a build-your-own six pack option. A weekly beer tasting is also an idea Gariffo says he'd like to do as well.

He traveled to Munich for Okberfest this year and has done a beer tour in Belgium too, so beer is a passion for Gariffo.

"I'm a beer geek," he says. "You're not going to see the Busches and the Bud Lights here. We'll have beers that you don't see anywhere else."

The Italian tradition in Gariffo's family was to always make "gravy" and meatballs on Sundays so he has decided to continue tradition. Every Sunday in January, meatball sandwiches will be added to the menu.

"Ketching Up" Media's West End

Gariffo says he knew he wanted to open his first restaurant in Media.

"We just love the town and the feel of it," he says. "Media is the spot. It's comfortable."

The location took about three months to completely renovate and Gariffo says he had to completely gut the place. But something that My Three Sons offers that many State Street businesses can't, is parking. There is plenty of parking at My Three Sons.

The West end of State Street historically sees less traffic however with the recent openings of Desert Rose and Sassy Girl Boutique, the trend may be turning around.

"We're trying to build up this side," he says. "I want to be an anchor and draw people to the West side"

My Three Sons, located at 300 W. State Street in Media, will officially open for business, Saturday, Dec. 15. Beer sales may not yet be permitted as Gariffo finalizes his liquor license with Harrisburg.

Just got home from my first visit to My Three Sons Hot Dogs. The dogs are outstanding! The snap of the casing and the perfectly seasoned beef are a testament to high quality hot dogs. The rolls were lightly toasted crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside, providing an excellent vehicle for holding the abundant homemade sauces and toppings. The red cabbage slaw and chipotle mayo on the LTC were so delicious that my taste buds are still singing! The Bad Bad Boy Barbeque sauce was such a perfect balance of sweet, tang and heat that it was impossible to stop eating it. Pair those high quality dogs and delicious toppings with outstanding beer selections from award winning brewers including Rogue, Dogfish Head, and Harpoon, and top shelf sodas from Hanks and Boylans, and My Three Sons is a recipe for success!

I am neither an employee or a relative of the owners. I'm just someone who enjoyed a tasty dog washed down with a good Harpoon IPA. As an aside, these types of community sites would be much more helpful to readers if commenters just communicated their personal experience with a place instead of deeming themselves qualified to comment on other people's experiences.
