Remembering an Inspirational Young Artist

A Sunday night benefit will remember a Conestoga High School grad who lived to inspire and who literally saved lives.

You may have driven by Handel's Ice Cream in Berwyn over the weekend and wondered about the sign promoting "Gabby's Benefit" Sunday night at the Berwyn Tavern.

Gabrielle Simpson Cerminaro was born 21 years ago on February 19, 1991. Sunday night at 8 p.m. her friends, family and the community at large will celebrate her 21st birthday with a benefit for the arts foundation founded in her memory.

Gabby Cerminaro died last August of complications from a rare combination of medical conditions that eventually proved too much for her to overcome. She touched many people in her life and even saved a life after her death. Her liver was given to a 13-year-old boy who was, according to her obituary, days away from death himself.

After her death, Cerminaro's family established Grabrielle's Art Foundation to promote the importance of the arts and to fund a scholarship program. The foundation's website describes the mission of the organization established in Cerminaro's honor.

"In loving memory of Gabrielle S. Cerminaro, an incomparably effervescent young woman to whom outreach was a passion and for whom the Arts served as interpreter, family and friends are establishing an Arts Scholarship in her name. Exuberance, talent, intellect, beauty defined Gabrielle. Kindness, caring, organ giver, loving are her give-backs."

The benefit will be held Sunday Night at Berwyn Tavern with part of the evening's proceeds going to the foundation.
