Summer is winding down, but here at the Wayne Art Center we are gearing up for another exciting round of fall
children’s classes! For our youngest artists, we offer classes both morning and afternoon to fit your child’s pre-school or kindergarten schedule. A few of the fun classes in store this year are: Art Together: Household Crafts with Nancy Peters and Little Artists, Big Masterpieces with Amy Grant. Art Together gives you and your young artist (ages 3-5) the chance to turn ordinary household materials into fun and creative artworks. In Little Artists, Big Masterpieces, your child will join us on a trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art without ever leaving Wayne! Each class will begin by looking at a reproduction of an artwork from the museum’s collection, followed by a fun and creative project inspired by it. We will continue to offer an old favorite, Two for Art, where our littlest artists can begin their creative journey accompanied by a parent or care-giver. Kinder Art + Clay, offered both on Wednesdays and Saturdays with popular instructor Susan Branco, teaches children basic techniques of hand-building with clay along with instruction in general art techniques. No matter the class, your little artist’s natural creative
instincts will be encouraged through a variety of projects designed to stimulate the imagination.
For our young adult and teen artists, Wayne Art Center offers a wide selection of classes across a range of media. NEW this season, Young Chef’s Club, offered on both Thursdays with Kim Honig and Fridays with Chiwishi Joy Abney, gives students 8 years and older the chance to get into The KITCHEN, and begin a delicious journey into the culinary arts. We are also excited to welcome several NEW instructors to our programs, including Deirdre Murphy of
the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA). In Young Masters Drawing for students 8 years and older, she will use a wide range of drawing materials to teach students how to master drawing in perspective and how to create light and volume to make a realistic image. For artists 16 years and older looking to begin or refine their college entrance portfolios, Deirdre will also offer College Portfolio Prep, a rigorous course in drawing & painting techniques. The class will include discussions on applying to art schools vs. liberal arts colleges, photographing and preparing a competitive portfolio, and includes four model sessions.
Wayne Art Center looks forward to welcoming back new and returning young artists this fall! As always, we are dedicated to enriching our community through the arts.
