U.S. 202 Ramp at Route 29 Reopened

Additional lane closures for U.S. 202 are planned.

The following was provided to Patch by PennDOT:

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Friday morning reopened the Swedesford Road on-ramp to U.S. Route 202 South at the Route 29 Interchange in East Whiteland Township, Chester County, following the completion of concrete paving at this location.

The on-ramp had been closed since April 28, 2014, for paving along the ramp and the rebuilt southbound side of Route 202. This work is part of PennDOT’s $168.7 million project to widen and reconstruct 6.5 miles of Route 202 to improve travel and safety between the Route 252/Swedesford Road Interchange in Tredyffrin Township and the Route 30 Interchange in East Whiteland Township.

As construction moves forward on this widening project, motorists will encounter lane closures on northbound and southbound Route 202 between the Route 29 and Route 401 interchanges from 8 p.m. Thursday (June 19) to 5 a.m. Friday (June 20) for the installation of an overhead sign structure.

Drivers also are reminded that Route 401 (Conestoga Road) will be closed and detoured at the Route 202 interchange in East Whiteland Township from 8 p.m. tonight (June 13) to 10 a.m. Saturday (June 14) for the setting of seven concrete bridge beams over the highway. If rain forces the cancellation of tonight’s work, the operation will move back one night and take place from 8 p.m. Saturday (June 14) to 10 a.m. Sunday (June 15).

The widening of Route 202 from north of the Route 401 Interchange to the Route 252/Swedesford Road Interchange is being performed by the Richard E. Pierson Construction Company, Inc. of Woodstown, N.J., under a $105.4 million contract. The project is scheduled to finish this fall.

Construction on Route 202 from north of Route 401 to Route 30 is being done by Allan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County. The $63.3 million contract is scheduled to finish in 2016.
