Local Vets Celebrate a Year of Service

Community and business leaders take a break to celebrate.

Members of the Berwyn Veterans Association celebrated the organization and a year of service to veterans and their families in the community Wednesday night at EmJ's Cafe in Berwyn.

Among the group's most visible projects around TE are the Berwyn Veteran's Memorial at the Berwyn Train Station and the garrison flag and garden area in Wilson Farm Park.

They are also one of the key community groups behind Veteran's Day, Memorial Day, and Fourth of July Celebrations.

In 2012 the Berwyn Veterans Association awarded two $5,000 awards to severly wounded hometown veterans. Details of those awards can be seen in the press release attaced to this article as a pdf file.

According to a press release from the group announcing two awards presented to local veterans earlier this year:

The Association founded in the late 90’s has a two fold mission: to visually honor all veterans through memorials, flags, and small plant areas; and second, through financial support for veterans with financial needs. The Association is responsible for the memorial at the Berwyn Septa Station, the Gold Star Mothers planting area at the station, as well as the Flag Memorial at Wilson Farm Park in Tredyffrin.

The only method of raising funds for the Association is through the annual 5K Run / Walk in May of each of the last 11 years. If you wish to make a donation at any time, please make it out to the Association and send it to P.O. Box 201 Berwyn, PA. 19312. We are a 501c3, so any donation is tax deductible (#20-3656722)

This is an amazing group of dedicated citizens who not only risked their lives for their country but who continue to serve the TE community in support of their fellow vets and the community at large. In the room for this event were Easttown Township leaders, business leaders, volunteers and spouses, and a severely wounded vet who give their time and talents in untold hours. It's important to note that they did not seek any of the attention for this article. In fact I was alerted to their meeting by someone else in the business community who is not a member of the group but who thought they deserved a special salute. I completely agree. Congratulations and thank you to Board Chairman Bill Bellew and all the members of this great organization for all the work you do on behalf of everyone in TE and Berwyn.
