 Management for Valley Forge National Historic Park\nValley Forge is the 
 national park in your backyard\, yet how well do you really know it? The
  park we see today is the product of thousands of years of repeated cycl
 es of destruction and recovery that began with prehistoric megafauna\, a
 nd continued through deforestation\, war\, industrial pollution on a mas
 sive scale\, preservation and commemoration\, and now suburbanization an
 d climate change. This illustrated talk focuses on the remarkable story 
 of the landscape here and the aggressive work now underway to restore no
 t only the historic landscape but also the environmental health of this 
 resilient and beloved place.\nDeirdre Gibson has served as the Chief of 
 Planning and Resource Management for Valley Forge National Historic Park
  (NHP) since 2002\, and oversees preservation of historic landscapes\, a
 rcheology\, historic collections and natural resources\, as well as plan
 ning for capital improvements\, and transportation for the park. She hol
 ds a BS in Landscape Architecture from Pennsylvania State University and
  an MS in Landscape Architecture and Planning with Highest Honors from H
 arvard University. She has received numerous awards for her work\, and l
 ast year received the Stephen Tyng Mather Award from the National Parks 
 Conservation Association for her courage and commitment in ensuring pres
 ervation of Valley Forge NHP.\nFree of charge\, all are welcome. No pre-
