DESCRIPTION:The Arboretum will host a combined exhibition of The Fiber Ar
 t of Japan (quilts and kimono) and The Art of Ikebana (Japanese flower a
 rrangements) for the month of February in the John J. Willaman Education
  Center.\nThe Fiber Art Exhibition\nThe Tokugawa or Edo Period (1603 - 1
 868) in Japan encompasses those items that westerners most closely assoc
 iate with Japanese culture\, art\, and costume.\nThe fiber art on Japan
 is based on many elements which include kamon\, Japanese family crests\;
  sashiko\, Japanese stitchery\; the amazing indigo dyes\; a group of res
 ist dyeing and weaving processes and the work of the woodblock artists o
 f the period.\nOn display will be beautiful and colorful handmade quilts
  by Nancy Long\, Japanese Fiber Artist\, and authentic kimono.\nThe Art
 of Ikebana\nThe English translation of Ikebana is "making flowers come a
 live" which is what Jose Juico\, Ikebana artist\, does in artistic arran
 gements. Ikebana is accomplished by learning and practicing a set of pri
 nciples that determine stem placement\, scale\, and choice of container.
  The result is a stunning and distinct style of floral arrangement.\nOn
 display will be Jose's handmade vessels and his exquisite Ikebana&nbsp\;
 floral arrangements.\n&nbsp\;\nThe John J. Willaman Education Center at
 the Arboretum is open daily 7 days a week from 9am - 4pm. The exhibition
  is free of charge and open to the public\, as is the Arboretum.\nAn ope
 ning reception to meet the artists will be held on Friday\, February 1 f
 rom 6pm - 8:30pm
