Four years ago millions flocked to Washington to see Barack Obama sworn in as President after a two year campaign on a promise of hope and change. Now he will be officially sworn in as required by the Constitution at noon on Sunday, January 20 in a small White House ceremony. The official White House Schedule posted on the Whitehouse.gov website lists "no public schedule" for the day the President will take the oath of office for his second term. That will be followed by the ceremonial sweaing-in during the Presidential Inauguration Celebration Monday, MLK Day, on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol. U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach will now represent all of Tredyffrin and Easttown under redrawn Sixth Congressional District maps.
When U.S. Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-PA6) and U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) are sworn in for their second terms in Washington Thursday they will become part of what may be the most diverse Congress in U.S. History. Under the newly redrawn map of the Sixth Congressional District Gerlach will represent all of Tredyffrin Easttown. Until now a small part of TE was included in the Seventh Congressional District which will again be represented by Patrick Meehan (R-PA7) in the new 113th Congress. A career politician, Gerlach was first elected to Congress in 2002 after serving more than a decade in the Pennsylvania State House and Senate. For the second-consecutive election cycle, Republican Warren Kampf topped Democrat Paul Drucker for right to represent the 157th District in Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives. The incumbent declared victory shortly before 11 p.m. Two years after beating Drucker by just under a thousand votes, Kampf ultimately won by 1,002. At an election night party at Wayne’s Landmark Americana, Kampf said his message of fiscal restraint struck a chord with the voters of the 157th. “Controlling spending in state government and not increasing the burden on the job sector, improving Pennsylvania’s competitiveness, making it more job-friendly, was all a large part of our message. State Sen. Andrew Dinniman was reelected Tuesday night to serve a second full term as a Pennsylvania state senator representing the 19th district. Dinniman defeated Republican challenger Chris Amentas, an East Fallowfield Township Supervisor, by about 16 percentage points. He celebrated the victory at his Exton campaign headquarters with more than a dozen supporters—family, staff and volunteers, and his dog Henry. Dinniman was a Chester County Commissioner when he was elected to state senate in 2006 to serve out the term of the late state Sen. Robert Thompson. He was re-elected to a full term in 2008. President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice presidential running mate, U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." Several sources have confirmed Gerlach's victory over Manan Trivedi.
Jim Gerlach will represent the U.S. District in Congress for a fifth term, according to several news outlets. Currently, with just under 85 percent of the state reporting, Gerlach is up 32,000 votes - 15 points - over challenger Manan Trivedi. This is the second time the two battled for the spot - in 2010, Gerlach won by 14 points. Going into the 2012 election, Trivedi was considered a promising Democratic challenger, due in part to his early fundraising numbers. During last year's congressional redistricting, Trivedi was drawn out of the new 6th District, which is considered a more Republican district than it was during the 2010 election.
