After a 12-year hiatus, Binni & Flynn's—a Mexican-American bar and restaurant that was located in the Gateway Shopping Center for 30 years—has been resurrected by the daughter of the original owners, Richard and Irene Coyle.

Meridith Coyle opened the restaurant at 575 Lancaster Ave., the former spot of her previous venture, Aneu Bistro in Berwyn.

Coyle told Patch the area was in much need of some Mexican flavors. After she closed Aneu, she took a week to construct Binni & Flynn's from top to bottom and reopened the Mexican restaurant and bar on Feb. 25.

Have you been to the new Binni & Flynn's? Tell us in the comments.

Meridith has done a great job with this change in direction. The food is fresh and the quantities copious. Best of luck!

Obvioulsy the above commenter has yet to dine at the new Binni's or is a friend of Meridith. The margaritas are served out of plastic milk gallon jugs. The majority of the employees are too young and unexperienced. Our waitress was no where near 18- when we ordered alcoholic drinks they were always brought out by an older employee. It was clearly her first waitressing job, very nice girl, but way too young. Once we got our food, it was the opposite of fresh, and certainly not "copious." I have gotten better quality at Baja Fresh or Chipolte. You could not pay me to eat there again.

I agree with Aly. I really really wanted to like it. We do need a good Mexican restaurant in the area but this isn't it. I could microwave better food.

Terrible food. Low quaility...just like the Original Binni and Flynn's. So I guess it's back and the same as it ever was. It was a "one and done" for me and my familiy.

I, too, really wanted to like it since its right in my neighborhood, but the food was really not very good. I had an Enchilada platter and it was all very bland - no fresh Mexican flavors. My friend thought the same thing about her Taco platter. Not even a trace of Tequila flavor in my Strawberry Margarita - it could have been right out of a 7-11 slurpee machine. I would give it one more try, but honestly for Mexican food, Mesa Fresh in Gateway is 100 times better.

I couldn't agree more....I was very disappointed with the quality and service. I couldn't identify one item that was made fresh. The best item ordered was a carry-over from the Aneu menu.

Cleaning up Patch one comment at a time

Just had dinner there and enjoyed it - fresh, affordable, nice local venue -

And, if you, like myself, made the mistake of reading some of the other negative comments, I just want to apologize for how awful and shallow the people writing them are. Happy first day of Spring!

Wow Cleaning up patch....
So honest opinions about an eatery are shallow? Unfortunatly in this case the bad reviews are tue. I'm gald, but suprised, you had a good meal at the new B+F's. A good owner will take these commenst as constuctive critisims and improve the flaws, especially in a new operation. I will thw owner well, but the food is awful.

I disagree with everyone. I have been there 3 times since it opened with my husband and 2 kids and have the best, most affordable food in this area. The staff has always been delightful, the food is delicious ESPECIALLY the rice, wow, and the margaritas were great. Mine came in a glass mason jar and we just love it. Brought friends there last night, 2 other couples, and they are booking a rehearsal dinner there.
To each their own I guess but I think there is a reason why there is always a crowd and always a wait!
But everyone should voice their opinion but it doesn't have to be so harsh. I love it and will continue to go with friends and family.

My opinin is with Tori. I love it there. The menu is so fun. The food is so good. Had the soinach enchilladas and loved them. Went back Saturday night and had he mini chimis and they were so yummy. I acualy had them cater a 45 person lunch in my corporate office today ith build your won chicken soft tacos, rice, beans, mini chimis and bean enchilladas with their chips and salsa and everyone raved about it. It is always crowded when I go there too so I am missing what people aren't happy with. I love it and so did the 45 guest in the office today. A definite regular I will be!

I loved it too George. Went opening night and it was packed and so good. Then went last night and even with the bad weather it was packed. Had a Binni Margarita and Chicken Fajits with the Friend Ice Cream. Top Nothch. My husband had the Fiesta Platter, he loved it. And the kids both had the kid Quesidillas. Followed with a Brownie Sundae. They loved it. And good to know they cater. I use Aneu for all my Office Use but now I will switch up to Binni & Flynns as well. Im so happy it is back and will be returning quite often.

Went at 9 pm one night. Not overly crowded and was told there would be an hour and a half wait. The very young Staff at the door were clearly told to say that so they seemed real busy. Knowing that, we went to the bar and after hearing all the hype, thought it would be fun. All the seats were taken, but plenty of standing room. After 15 min bartender still did not greet anyone except those seated. We left. Would like to try it, but dont have a good first impression.

I liked the food at Binni & Flynn's, but some of the negative comments are valid. The hostesses don't seem to know what they are doing, and after being told that I'd have a 15-20 minute wait, I was still waiting for a table nearly an hour later. As my party and I were being seated, though, we noticed plenty of empty tables even though a crowd of people were waiting for as long as I had. Binni & Flynn's food is good if you're in the mood for something Mexican, but they have a long way to go in terms of service.

Hope they get the front end service issues worked out because the food is good. (more Tex-Mex than Mexican). Give the waiters and bussers a can of jolt each at 5pm to get them moving ...

All those negative reviews, could it be a Binnie & Flynn's competitors. If I were a betting person I would take those odds!!!

If you know of competitors (reasonably priced "normal" table service Mexican on the main line) - PLEASE LET US KNOW!!! I sooooo want Binni & Flynns to succeed - they just need to fix the front end service - when you have a line out the door and people waiting an hour for a table even the managers should be bussing tables if that is what's required to serve the patrons.

Competitors? C'mon. You are definitely a friend of Meredith's. And its probably a good thing you dont bet, Version

I didnt have as bad an experience as others here, but the food did not blow me away. I love me some good mexican/tex-mes, but it was average and a little bland. I had the taco trio, and the bean taco was terrible, but the other 2 were ok. The service was not very good, but we chalked that up to hiccups in a new business. All in all, I would give the place another try

Or possibly the food and service are actually that bad. Reviews on yelp are consistently bad as well.

We all love Meridith and want her to succeed. Anue was not a success...so we are hopeful for B+F. The reality is the service is horrible, parking is poor, even at lunch and the food terrible. She can't totally fix the parking but the othervtwo issue are fixable. i hope she has time before this venture fails too.

I don't get what everyone is saying. I live in berwyn and have been through the chances. This place is a winner and is delicious. I am somewhat of a foodie and I don't understand all the negative reviews. And I don't know the owner and I am not a competitor. A local resident that has spoken to tons of people in the neighborhood that love it as well. Everyone should go and see for themselves

Oh hell, you are talking about reviving a main line icon. It is going to be crowded, service is going to suck and people will rude. I would like to see Binni & Flynn's do well and get back to how it was in Gateway, but I have no intention of trying the place until after the initial hype calms down. I will let you know how it is in September.
