Teens in Yang's Market Case in Court Wednesday

Two teens face a laundry list of felony charges in the robbery and beating of a local Berwyn market owner.

The two teens accused of robbing and beating the owner Yang's Market in a violent robbery two weeks ago are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning for a preliminary hearing.

Ocatavio Sandoval,18, and a 17-year-old accomplice are charged with robbery, assault and a host of related felony and misdemeanor charges in the case.

Easttown police say they were able to find and arrest the two teens with the help of people in the community after Yong Yang identified Sandoval as the man who attacked him. Sandoval had previously applied for a job working for Yangs Market but had not been hired for a regular part-time position.

According to police, Sandoval and the 17-year-old had scoped out Yangs Market in the days leading up to the attack. Police say when Yang locked up for the day on January 18 the teens jumped him as he got into his van. Yang suffered a severe blow to the face, which did serious damage to his left eye.

Several people close to the Yang family tell Patch that Yang underwent delicate, six-hour surgery to repair his eye but that doctors won't know for about six months or so if he will regain full use of the eye. For now friends say Yang is recovering but unable to drive.

When Sandoval was arrested he was wearing a T-shirt with the words "Genius by Birth, Slacker by Choice."

The two teens are scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Thomas Tartaglio in Chester County District Court 15-1-02 in Devon Wednesday morning at 9 a.m..

Glad they were caught so fast. Gives all a feeling of relief. Breaks my heart for Mr Yang, there is a man that worked hard - will continue to. To lose eye sight in one eye at his age will be a challenge.

I agree with an "eye for an eye". Those delinquents should have it done to them double for the tragic crime they committed!! Get both of their heads and smash them together and NOT a slap on their wrists.
As for the boys parents, they need to have a slap upside each of THEIR heads and a swift kick in their butts for not disciplining and teaching respect to their children. It starts at home!!! You did a great job raising criminals. What heinous crimes will these boys committ when they are older?!
