Patch Poll: Will You Shop on Thanksgiving?

Black Friday begins Thanksgiving evening for many big stores, trying to get a jump on Christmas shopping. Will you go shopping after Thanksgiving dinner?

Back at the turn of the century, Christmas and holiday shopping started in earnest on the day after Thanksgiving.

A few years later the big stores, grappling with a downturn in the economy, started opening at midnight and offering "Midnight Madness" deals for people who came in the middle of the night.

Now, stores are creating quite a stir by opening even earlier. Many are advertising sales beginning Thanksgiving at 8p.m.  It's not as easy to come up with alliteration for an 8 p.m. store opening. "Midnight Madness" kind of rolls of the tongue.  Is a store opening at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving "just plain insanity!"?

Are you willing to stand in line instead of sit on the couch digesting turkey to get a good deal?
