Man Robs Girl Scout Cookie Booth at Pathmark
Tredyffrin Police are searching for a man they say fled after stealing money from a Girl Scout cookie sale Sunday just before 5 p.m.
Tredyfrin Police are searching for a man who robbed a Girl Scout Cookie sale table inside the front entrance-way of the Pathmark in Berwyn Sunday evening just before 5 p.m.
Detectives are looking for a 20 to 30-year-old man described as 5'8"-5'10" tall with a medium build. He was wearing glasses and his face was covered in a scarf. Police say the man was wearing a black sweatshirt and light colored pants.
Sources say the scouts who were robbed are fourth graders from a troop attached to New Eagle Elementary School in Tredyffrin Township. None of the girls was injured during a brief tug of war over the money that was taken.
It's not clear exactly how many scouts were at the table when the robber struck. It appears from what sources are telling TE Patch Sunday night that there were at least two and possibly three or four Girl Scouts at the table and at least two parents on the scene as well.
There are two sets of doors at the store. The cookie booth was set up in the entrance-way between the outter and inner doors.
Sources on the scene tell TE Patch that there was a minor 'tug of war' as the suspect grabbed the money from the table.
Police say the fact that there was a struggle for the money, no matter how brief, and because the man didn't just grab the money elevates the crime under from a misdemeanor theft to a felony robbery.
The masked man fled out the front door of the store on foot toward the back of the building. No weapon was displayed during what police describe as a "strong arm" robbery.
Police were at the Pathmark investigating the crime, searching for evidence outside the building and looking at security camera video until about 9:30 Sunday night.
Anyone with information about the suspect should contact Tredyffrin Police by calling 9-1-1.
