Could Yogurt Be New Life Blood For Paoli Ctr?
First new store opens in Paoli Town Center
The owners hope yogurt will pump new business life blood into Paoli Town Center.
Twisted Mango will have a "soft" opening Saturday at the corner of Lancaster Avenue and S.Valley Road as the new anchor store of Paoli Town Center.
Owners of the center are hoping a soft opening for soft yogurt in a soft economy will help bring some hard cash to the long-empty row of shops on the south side of Lancaster Avenue, across from the Paoli Train Station.
The business side of the story
The area, and row of empty storefronts has long been the subject of concern for business and Tredyffrin Township officials who are putting a renewed emphasis on and big push behind breathing new economic life into "downtown" Paoli.
Edgewater Advisors owns the building which includes several storefronts that are currently available for rent. Edgewater also owns Twisted Mango which they hope will not only offer another FroYo option in TE but will also spur economic development on that stretch of Lancaster Avenue, across from the train station and Paoli Veteran's Memorial.
A major study is underway right now on the best ways to improve the business landscape on Lancaster Avenue between route 252 on the eastern end and Paoli Hospital on the western end of the study area.
You can follow that study and take part in surveys seeking your suggestions and ideas at the new PaoliOnTheMove.org website launched earlier this month by Tredyffrin Township in cooperation with the firm that is conducting the study.
The FroYo side of the story
Twisted Mango brings 21 weekly flavor and dozens of topping options to its brightly painted corner store that features inside and outdoor seating.
Yogurt cups, as with most self-serve FroYo in the region as priced per ounce. At Twisted Mango it's fifty centers per ounce, the same as Whirled Peace which is down the street and across Lancaster Ave. from the Paoli Plaza Shopping Center.
Managers tell Patch that in addition to dressing cups of yogurt at the shop, you can also take toppings home dry for use later. Toppings run from candy and pretzels to cookie pieces and fruit.
Parking is not quite as obvious from the street as the yogurt and toppings, but it is available right behind the Paoli Town Center Building. You have to go into the lot as if you were going to park for the Paoli Library or Wells Fargo bank. A small parking lot is available for Paoli Town Center just past the library's lot and on the right. (You cannot turn into the Paoli Town Center lot from S. Valley Road). There is an alley/walkway from the lot out on to Lancaster Ave.
There is also some limited street parking on S. Valley Road. The owners also point out that at night there is plenty of parking in the SEPTA train station lot across Lancaster Ave.
Hours: Twisted Mango will be open daily from 11 a.m.-11 p.m.
The new yogurt shop opens to the public Saturday (Sept.22) with an official "grand opening" event planned for the following weekend.
Owners say they plan to make Twisted Mango an integral part of the community with events and sponsorships to help support neighbors, schools and organizations in the area.
