Local Resident Writes New Musical -Opening Feb 1
The Main Line’s oldest community theater is currently the site of rehearsals for the World Premier of a locally written musical.
With book, music and lyrics all written by local author, composer and thespian, Danny Scott, PLACES! follows the musical paths of uniquely talented strangers as they grow to become the closest of friends in this heartwarming and toe tapping production about the relationships that are formed in Community Theater.
Philadelphia native Danny Scott, is an American singer, songwriter, composer and arranger currently living in Exton. He began playing the piano at age 5 and quickly fell in love with music. This love grew into songwriting at 13, and since then his Irish tenor voice has been heard around the world. With a degree in music composition and theory, Danny went on to become a physician assistant and now a professor of Physician Assistant Studies at Salus University.
At the age of 10, Danny starred in the musical Oliver! This would be his first and last musical appearance...until almost 40 years later when he escorted his teen daughter to "Gypsy" auditions at Footlighters Theater in Berwyn, “just to play the piano.” While his daughter, Abby, landed a role in the show, Danny was also cast as "Herbie," and the lives of the Scott family changed forever. Six lead roles later, sharing the stage with his wife and daughter brought a new found love and appreciation for the talent and the outstanding people to be found spending their every free moment on and behind the stages of community theaters. Moved to put this experience on paper, Danny started writing .... and a year later, "Places!" was born.
PLACES! introduces the audience to an assortment of “cast members,” including a teenaged ingénue and her counterpart, a talented young actor who really just “Wants to Play Baseball” …. an overwrought attorney with years of community theater experience….a cardiologist making his community theater debut…a stereotypical stage mom with her own secrets….and a talented Broadway veteran returning to his roots.
The opportunity arose to put up the show as a fundraiser for Footlighters, the theater that began the story. An outstanding cast was brought together, representing decades of amateur and professional talent from the tri-state area and rehearsals began in November.
This unique production was written about community theater and for community theater. As an accolade to the plethora of talent seen in local productions and the bonds which connect this family of part-time thespians, some Footlighters premier performances are being supported by fellow community theaters who are sponsoring specific nights of the three week run.
Performances: Feb 1, 2, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16 at 8:00 PM and Sunday matinee performances on February 3 and 10 at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $15 for general admission. $1.00 discounts are offered for members of the Community Theater Family who bring a program with their name listed as cast or crew member.
Tickets and more information are available at the newly renovated website www.footlighterstheater.com or call the box office at (610) 296-9245. Footlighters Theater is located at 58 Main Avenue Berwyn, PA 19312 right off of Route 30 on the Main Line.

Danny Scott is a great talent...and a great guy. I had the pleasure of appearing with him in a show at Footlighters last spring. "Break a leg," Danny and the same to all the cast members who will forever have a place in theater history by originating the roles in what will hopefully become a national musical theater treasure.
